Sowwah Island is a new, masterplanned Central Business District and ‘Downtown’ for Abu Dhabi. The vision is for a mixed-use community where commercial uses are integrated with retail, residential,leisure and community facilities within a compact urban setting.
The island’s character is defined by a sustainable and high status environment, blending unique architecture, stunning landscape design and free flowing pedestrian mobility.
Urban Art Projects has developed a comprehensive public art masterplan for Sowwah Island which supports a range of diverse integrated,stand alone, permanent, semi-permanent and temporary artworks and artistic interventions.
The curatorial rationale celebrates the wonder of simple human interactions and engagements: between people, artworks and the environment. With an exciting breadth of possibilities created by leading local, regional and
international artists, Sowwah Island will become a destination characterised by its international cultural savvy and world class public realm.
